Accessibility Statement

Coe & Company works for counsel, owners, contractors and public agencies, and the information on this site should be usable by every one of them regardless of disability. That includes people using a screen reader, people who navigate by keyboard alone, people who need larger text or higher contrast, and people who find motion uncomfortable.

The site is built to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA, which incorporates the 2.1 and 2.0 criteria at that level. These are the guidelines referenced by the Americans with Disabilities Act in practice, and by Section 508 for federal procurement.

• Contrast. Every text colour was measured against the surface behind it. Two brand colours were darkened during the build because they measured below the 4.5:1 minimum at small sizes.
• Keyboard. Every interactive element is reachable and operable by keyboard, with a visible bronze focus ring that works on light and dark backgrounds. A “skip to main content” link is the first stop on every page.
• Structure. One h1 per page, headings in order with no levels skipped, landmarks named, and no broken ARIA references.
• Forms. Every field on the inquiry form has a programmatic label, errors are announced rather than shown by colour alone, and required fields are marked in text.
• Images. Every image carries alternative text, or is marked decorative so a screen reader passes over it.
• Motion. Animations are modest and respect the operating system’s “reduce motion” setting.
• Zoom and reflow. Text can be enlarged to 200% and the layout reflows to a single column without loss of content.

Stated plainly, because a statement that claims perfection is not useful to somebody who has just hit a barrier:

• The PDFs. The curriculum vitae, fee schedule and typical retainer agreement are provided as PDF documents. They are readable, but they have not been fully tagged for screen-reader navigation. Ask and any of them will be sent as accessible text or large print, normally the same day.
• Photographs of investigations. Alternative text describes what a photograph shows, but a technical photograph of a concealed condition carries detail that a sentence cannot fully convey. Call the office and it will be described.
• Linked organisations. The Resources section links to code bodies, courts and standards organisations. Those sites are outside the firm’s control and their accessibility varies.

The site is built to current web standards and is designed to work with recent versions of Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge, with screen readers including NVDA, JAWS and VoiceOver, with voice control, and with keyboard-only navigation.

The firm aims to acknowledge accessibility reports within three business days, to give a remediation estimate for anything that needs development work, and to supply an alternative format in the meantime so you are not left waiting on a fix.

It helps to include the page address, what you were trying to do, and the browser and assistive technology you were using — but a sentence describing the problem is enough to start.
